Dear Montana ACLU Family-

Below is an action alert sent out a short while ago by the national ACLU to the 1200 e-mail addresses they have for folks who reside in Montana. We got them to send this REAL ID action alert instead of sending an alert on the pending FISA vote in the Senate. They did so because our Senators have been strong on our concerns about FISA reauthorization needing to a) not grant immunity to the telecoms and b) not be extended so broadly as to not require particularized suspicion.

What we in Montana really need at this point is to generate messages supporting our delegation’s opposition to REAL ID. And specifically, we need to communicate with our Governor to encourage his continued leadership on this issue, especially among his fellow Governors.

If you already have signed up for these action alerts, my apologies for the duplicative message here. But even if you have already seen the message, I urge you to take a few minutes now to a) contact the Governor and the delegation, and b) share the e-mail alert with your friends, family, co-workers, social networks, etc.

It is of strategic importance that they hear from regular folks and the grassroots, not just from the ACLU staff.

With thanks and warm regards,

Scott

PS- Steve Shapiro, ACLU’s National Legal Director, is attending our March 1st annual meeting and keynoting our banquet, Please make every effort to be there and to hear him.
